Family Music Class Policies

Music on the Move (MOTM) is a family owned and operated business dedicated to providing music education and experiences to children in the Greater Cedar Rapids area. We currently offer music classes for your Preschool Program and Family Music Classes for children ages 0-5.

CENTER POLICIES

Illness Policy
So that all children may remain as healthy as possible, please keep your child home if he or she has experienced any of the following symptoms within the last 24 hours or if your child is visibly sick: vomiting, diarrhea, fever, contagious rashes, or contagious eye infections. We do understand that some symptoms such as residual coughs, runny noses and non-contagious rashes are a regular part of life with children. Please use your best judgment. If your child is visibly ill, chances are he or she is not feeling well enough to participate in a highly stimulating activity such as music.

Weather Cancellations
In the event of inclement or severe weather, Music on the Move will follow the Cedar Rapids School District.  If classes are delayed or cancelled there will be no music class.  If weather is questionable, please watch Facebook, Twitter, and our website for updates.  We will make every attempt to contact you if class is cancelled unexpectedly.

Coming Late
If you are running late, please don’t worry! We’ve all been there! Whether you make it in time for the “Hello Song” or just in time for “Goodbye”, we would love to see you. Do keep in mind that, for some children, the “Hello Song” is an important ritual and missing it can be upsetting. If you think you might miss it, you may consider singing it in the car!

Cameras and Video
Our classes are very fun and exciting and an experience we hope you will cherish for a lifetime. You are welcome to capture this experience on film provided that your child is not left unattended during class, and you are not disrupting the class. In addition, please be very careful to refrain from publicly posting (including social media sites) any photos of children that are not your own unless you receive written consent from their parent in advance. Finally, just a reminder that our classes are designed to be held in a non-performance environment, we don’t want others to feel self-conscious about their own musical ability. It would be inappropriate to place a video of class (whether or not you feel the coverage is limited to your child) on a publicly available website (including social media sites that may limit access to “Friends” or other selected individuals).

Food and Drink
While food and drink are allowed in our space, we ask that you not bring them to class. They can be hugely distracting to participating children and life-threatening to children with allergies. Caregivers who need to breastfeed or bottle-feed their children during class are welcome to do so. In fact, many families choose to use lullaby time for this purpose. Please note that we lease our space and therefore, cannot guarantee that our space is peanut- wheat-, or other allergen-free.

Visitors
Please bring them! We are a family-oriented program and would love for as many family members as possible to participate. If you plan to bring an extra child with you to class, please check with your teacher first. Further, please keep in mind that the nature of our program does not support the use of electronic devices such as cell phones or other portable computers as an activity in lieu of participation by older siblings or other visiting older children.

Safety
We try to make our space as child-friendly as possible however, cannot guarantee it “childproof”. That’s where you come in! Teachers are very busy teaching during class and therefore, we depend on each child’s adult caregiver to supervise them so that classes stay safe and accidents are minimized. We ask that children use “walking feet” during class. In addition, please note that the doors are unlocked during class and we don’t want any children to escape!

Payments
We currently accept payment by cash, check, credit card, Dwolla, or PayPal. You can use PayPal to pay with a credit card whether or not you have an account or, of course, if you have an account with PayPal, you can link it to any form of payment you choose (such as a personal bank account). We also accept checks, made payable to Music on the Move. Fees will apply for checks returned due to insufficient funds. Music on the Move prefers Dwolla for payment. Create an account today if you do not have one, and send money to anyone for free!  It is completely secure and there are no fees for either party!
